Almost Spring

Today began as one of those “It’s 5:30 a.m. and the dogs are barking to be let out” days.  Nothing says “Wake up” so eloquently as a near-dawn  walk in frosty weather.  The temperature change wasn’t a great shock though.  I forgot to turn the heat back on last night, and awoke shivering, curled up like a shrimp.

Star-shine gave way to a chilly gray dawn.  And it continues chilly and gray- but snow-less!  Due to the mildness of the winter days, Shauna is eager to begin gardening. And my heart agrees with her.  Somehow it “feels” that spring should arrive right after New Years- the effect, no doubt, of my Southern origins.  My head knows better though.  Need to wait.

Buuut,  if you can’t have green outside, have it inside.  At Josh’s request, we’ve begun juicing.  Apple, cucumber and ginger juice at 7:00 a.m.!  Looks like algal bloom in a glass, but tastes pretty good.  Maybe it will even help my creaky joints.

One of my best friends’ mothers said that “Getting old isn’t for sissies”.  Ain’t that the truth?  I’ve got three new exercise videos geared to old goobers who have lost their agility but not their memory of it.  I try to make it through them without murmuring, but it doesn’t always happen.  When I’m struggling to LOCATE  my limbs- much less manipulate them into the right positions, and when my diaphragm is screaming at me to “Take a break for crying out loud!”, and when the incessant rhythm in my head indicates that I’m two beats behind, I do well not to cuss!
